Leiria Guided Tour
Meet us at the Leiria Castle ticket office, which will serve as the perfect spot to kick off our guided tour of this immense fortress. Let's see how many secrets we can uncover!
You'll be surprised to learn that upon its inauguration in 1135, the castle's interior has since been perfectly conserved. As we stroll through the grandiose rooms, we'll share the story behind its impressive construction. Mandated by the very first king of Portugal, Alfonso Henriques, the castle was built with the purpose of defending the kingdom's borders from invading armies.
Within the city, we'll also find several other significant monuments, such as the Church of Nossa Senhora da Penha, the ancient Pazos Reales, the Main Tower, and best of all, incredible views that only Portugal can offer. After gaining deeper insight into the fortress' storied past, we'll tour the city streets to arrive at the Leiria Cathedral. While its exterior may seem cold, it boasts a unique history we'll uncover thanks to our knowledgeable guide.
Next, we'll continue traversing the streets of Leiria, and we'll see the Casa de los Pintores and the Casa de los Arcos. Our final stop along our immersive route will be in the Jewish Quarter. Here, we'll take a quick trip back in time, as the neighborhood is known for its preserved medieval layout.
After 2 hours of getting to know this historic city, we'll part ways at this last stop, bringing our tour to an end.
