Step into the oldest Chinese neighborhood in America on this guided tour of Chinatown. You'll explore its lively streets filled with lanterns, visit traditional food markets, see a herbal medicine pharmacy, and discover the origin of the famous fortune cookies.
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Omni San Francisco Hotel to kick off our guided walking tour of the neighborhood of Chinatown, the second-largest Chinese community in the United States and one of the areas with the most history and color in the city.
Our first stop will be in front of the Old Saint Mary's Cathedral, where we'll discover the origins of this emblematic district and the development of the first Asian immigrants on the western coast. Then, we'll walk toward Portsmouth Square, the true social heart of the neighborhood. At this historic meeting point, we'll see the local life as we step into the area's past.
We'll continue our tour by strolling along the lively Stockton Street. At this bustling commercial area, we'll soak up the aromas and colors of its traditional markets, full of exotic products, spices, and unique products of Chinese cuisine.
During the walk, we'll also visit an authentic herbal medicine pharmacy, where we'll uncover the secrets of the use of plants and ancestral remedies that remain in Asian culture. Later, we'll head toward Waverly Place, known as the street with painted balconies. In this picturesque corner, we'll admire the architectural details of its facades and spot hidden Buddhist temples.
To end our tour on a high note, we'll set off to the famous Golden Gate Fortune Cookies Co. We'll visit this historic factory to witness the fascinating elaboration process of fortune cookies. Will we reveal what destiny has in store for us?
After a 2-hour tour filled with history, aromas, and legends, we'll conclude our guided tour in the vicinity of the neighborhood.
