Explore nearly 1,000 years of history at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin. Discover its stunning nave, ancient crypt, and fascinating treasures.
Originally founded as a Viking church, Christ Church Cathedral has stood as a place of worship and pilgrimage since 1028. Nestled in the heart of Dublin city centre, this working Anglican cathedral is a remarkable fusion of history, spirituality, and exquisite craftsmanship.
With your ticket, you'll explore the cathedral at your own pace, with the use of an audio guide and an informative leaflet to enrich your visit.
Upon entering, you'll be struck by the grandeur of the nave. Its soaring vaulted ceilings, intricate medieval tiled floor, and vibrant stained-glass windows showcase centuries of artistic brilliance. Inside the cathedral, you'll find interesting items such as the heart of St Laurence O’Toole, as well as the final resting place of Strongbow, offering a glimpse into the legacy of a former King of Leinster.
One of the cathedral's most intriguing features is its crypt—the oldest in Ireland and the city’s oldest working structure. Here, you'll uncover fascinating treasures, including a rare copy of the Magna Carta and the mummified cat and rat whose curious tale, immortalised by James Joyce in Finnegans Wake. Locally, they are known as "Tom and Jerry", adding a dash of Dublin's unique wit to its historic charm.
